Quentin Tan
Quentin Tan is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at UCLA. His dissertation project is an extensive meditation on the conceptual formation of the term fangyan in the 20th and 21st centuries, drawing on works of cultural production to theorize language and the Sinophone. He has also served as co-coordinator for UCLA’s Taiwan Studies Working Group since 2023.
Prior to joining UCLA, he received a B.A. in College of Letters and College of East Asian Studies from Wesleyan University. He also occasionally works as a Mandarin–English interpreter for cultural events in Los Angeles, including film screenings and related programs.
